- North Bristol NHS Trust is the biggest health trust in the south west and one of the largest in the country.
- It provides hospital-based medical and surgical services to the population of north Bristol, South Gloucestershire and north Somerset.
Challenge
- Urgent need to update outdated network to its 2 main campuses
- A new high speed network was also required to allow for implementation of vital digital systems (PACS) under the NHS's CfH
- Implementation challenges would include complex physical environments and the need to minimise disruption to staff
Solution
- Removal of legacy network
- Implementation of new core network
- High speed HP based LAN specified to join the Trust's 2 main hospital sites
- Installation of Gigabit backbone with capacity for 1Gbps to the desktop where required

- Project phase successfully completed with minimum disruption to staff
- The new high speed network has enabled the Trust to deploy PACS providing easier collaboration between clinicians
- Over 4000 users now have access to high speed network, including 100 remote users, with capacity to add more
