James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
- The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides acute hospital services for the Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Waveney areas, serving a population of some 230,000. With over 500 beds in total, the Trust also provides community hospital care at Lowestoft Hospital and at Northgate Hospital in Great Yarmouth, together with an integrated hospital and community children's service.
Challenge
- The James Paget NHS Foundation Trust was already a significant user of data and networking services for administrative and clinical applications. However, the growth in these applications had led to a fragmented system with servers housed in five separate rooms, none of which were originally designed for the purpose.
- The Trust therefore wanted to consolidate its data services into a purpose-built data centre which would provide a fully controlled environment for the business-critical systems needed to run busy NHS services.
- It also wanted to achieve a high level of business continuity with the knowledge that the facilities would be protected from the potential of flooding, fire and electrical supply problems.
- What is more the project had to be delivered within a very short timescale and without interruption to the critical services that the IT services provide to the hospital
Solution
- NextiraOne provided a new state-of-the-art data centre which would replace the smaller fragmented accommodation the Trust had been using.
- The solution included the design of a purpose-built server room complete with fire suppressant, air cooling, two rows of equipment racks, an electrical design around the provision of UPS with generator back-up, plus the installation of a new hospital core network infrastructure and cabling for a significant number of data points.
