Case Study

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust

  • The Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax opened in April 2001, the result of an amalgamation of 3 existing hospitals in the Halifax area
  • A state of the art medical facility embracing excellence across the spectrum of clinical practice

Challenge

  • The Trust's vision of a new 'filmless' hospital centred on their decision to deploy PACS
  • To deploy PACS a 24x7 fully resilient network was required

Solution

  • To design, configure and manage an entire network implementation
  • Cisco Hardware selected
  • Resilient infrastructure featuring a 1Gbps Gigabit Ethernet backbone and switched 100Mbs Fast Ethernet to the desktop

Benefits

  • New network and PACS were delivered on time and to budget
  • Clinical benefits have been enormous and the Calderdale Royal was one of the first hospitals in Europe to have dispensed with x-ray film
  • The Trust was also nominated for the Healthcare IT Effectiveness Award by the Department of Health which it later won
